Ensuring everybody is happy in the workplace is not just about flexible hours and hybrid working. It is also not about having the latest gimmicks. And also, it is not about having sweets on offer. No, it’s all about making sure your employees feel valued and safe. So it is important to look after their physical and mental health. You do not want them to be too stressed because they’re being overworked, as you don’t want them to not start eating and not sleeping. The thing is though, not everybody thinks of it like this. Employers do not always know what is best for the employee. A lot of mental health issues come from body issues, whether it be physical appearance, weight gain, or something else. That’s why things like a food intolerance test are so vital. How, you ask? Keep reading.
To help ease some concerns with regard to weight loss, we’ve put together an article discussing the importance of a healthy diet in the workplace, and how people should resist the temptation to snack unhealthily at work. You know, stress eating and things like that. People just do not realise how bad some food is for them and how they should manage it.
Why would a food intolerance test make someone happier?
A food intolerance test is not a cure. We’re not saying you can offer an employee an intolerance test and they’ll just cheer up and not be stressed. It doesn’t work like that. The reason we would suggest something like food intolerance testing is that it stops the vicious cycle. Signs of stress include symptoms like diarrhoea, constipation and funnily enough, anxiety. For some, if they suffer from stress, they think these are the results of being too stressed at work. Actually, it could be that these are signs of food intolerance. If you do have an intolerance to certain food items, they might make you experience these symptoms. You see where we are going here…
It can be a vicious cycle if you have an undiscovered food intolerance. You can put your stomach problems down to feeling stressed, when actually it is your food intake. For example, you’ve had a tough morning. You make it to lunchtime. You’ve got a packed lunch from home which you made for yourself. But the local shop is just over the road! How tempting is it to go and buy some lunch instead of having your pack up? Well, this is where willpower comes in. It is surprising how many people ditch their homemade meals to pop to the shop and grab a snack. The end result is that it makes them feel worse. It might feel good eating the food, but the intolerance symptoms may rear their ugly heads.
Which symptoms of an intolerance should you be looking out for?
There are a few symptoms of intolerance which we have already mentioned. They align themselves with stress also, and so it is important that an employee is able to differentiate between the two. It is also essential that an employer knows the difference as well. If you are constantly feeling unwell, then they can take the appropriate actions. Whether it is getting dairy-free milk and foods if your employee has an intolerance to dairy etc, these small changes can make such a big difference to people’s wellbeing.
