If you, like many other people, have any summer holidays coming up it’s good to get yourself organised in advance; getting organised may seem like a chore, but thanks to this list you will have everything you need ready to go; I want to ensure you don’t forget anything.
Don’t forget your purse or wallet
This one may seem simple, but make sure to pack your purse/wallet. The last thing you want when you arrive at your destination is to be stranded without any money; and it can take days to get a new card. However, it’s useful to have other methods such as ‘apple pay’ set up on your phone in case you do ever find yourself in a difficult situation similar to this.
Pack your pre-travel essentials
Make sure to pack your pre-travel essentials. Travel tickets, your passport, travel insurance and any medication are all essentials that are required for any trip; it’s useful to keep these items in a separate bag or folder so they are easily accessible at any time of travel. You may be thinking ‘how could I forget my passport or tickets?’, but this happens more often than you would think.
Ensure you only take necessary toiletries
When it comes to toiletries, it can be very easy to overpack and get carried away. From experience, this is usually a problem for women. Basic toiletries can be found in almost every shop nowadays, e.g. shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant etc, so it’s best to stock up before you go so that you know everything you need is in your luggage. Sometimes it can be a struggle to stay within the weight limit for luggage, if this is the case for you, you will be able to buy toiletries at the airport before you depart; this method is more risky as you’re more likely to forget something, but if you make a list this is a good option.
Sun cream is a must
If you’re anything like the author of this article, sun cream is an essential item that has to be taken on any sunny holiday. It’s so important to protect your skin in the sun to prevent any potential diseases or sunburn. A lot of people like to get a tan on their sunny holiday and believe that wearing sun cream may hinder this process, this is not the case at all; you are still able to get a tan whilst protecting your skin from the sun, don’t believe the myth! If you do forget to put on your sun cream, ensure you have after sun with you, as this will help you to cope with your sunburn. It would work in a similar way to treating your skin if you have had an allergic reaction. A symptom of an allergic reaction is often skin rashes, and these need to be soothed with ointments. Aloe Vera and after sun are perfect remedies for sunburn, as well as rashes potentially caused by an allergy. For more information on dealing with allergies, here is a great article to catch you up to speed.
Check out your accommodation
Always check out what your accommodation has to offer, there is no point taking beach towels or bathroom towels with you if you are provided with them for the duration of your stay. If you are ever unsure, it’s useful to take a thin beach towel that doesn’t weigh too much or take up too much room in your case.
Think carefully about your wardrobe
It is always recommended to plan out what clothing you are going to take on holiday, to stop you from packing every single piece of summer clothing that you own. It’s handy to plan out an outfit for each day and each night for the amount of time you are there; after that, add in your swimwear, shoes, nightwear and underwear. Another handy thing to have when it comes to packing clothing are packing cubes. You can get a pack of 6 or so of these on Amazon, they are different-sized bags that you can organise different sections of your suitcase into; this helps to make more room in your suitcase and makes everything more organised.
Be adaptable with your electronics
If you’re heading to another country, always make sure to check what plug sockets they use as you may need to take some of your own adaptors so that your electronics will work wherever you are. One of the best things to take, which many people don’t think of, is an extension lead. More often than not, hotel rooms only have one or two plug sockets which can make it difficult when sharing a room; if you have an extension lead you are able to use multiple electronics at once.
Read up on your holiday
The last thing that I would recommend taking on holiday with you is a good book, if you struggle to lie in the sun or do nothing, reading a book can help you to relax and escape reality for a while, which is what most people want to do on holiday. If you’re not into reading, you can take cards, a game, a tablet etc; just something to keep you occupied and to help you relax whilst you’re away.
Follow these tips to have the best holiday!
I would recommend starting packing about a week before you go so that you have enough time to make sure you have everything. However, if you’re using this checklist it’s impossible to forget anything!
